making soap and skincare Products since 2014
The journey began with personal struggles with eczema and sensitive skin. The major brands irritated and blemished, we struggled to find gentle products for our skin worried about buying expensive products in case they also irritated the skin. Soap is such a necessary product and we couldn’t find anything that worked for us, let alone other skincare products.
We started experimenting with pre-made soap bases and kits. Although not as natural as the products we make now, these made a huge difference to our skin. In the years that followed, we began an even more natural path, making soaps and skin care products from scratch. Keeping the ingredients minimal; we invested in essential oils, natural colourants, plant based oils and slowly changed to palm free alternatives and plastic free packaging.
After ten years of experience of formulating cosmetic recipes for personal use, we decided to dive into selling our cosmetics. Our formulations have been fully certified as safe to use by a cosmetic chemist and we are continuously trialing new ideas and refining existing products. We hope our customers enjoy using our handmade cosmetics as much as we enjoy making them.
Sustainability
As a couple running a sustainable skincare brand we prioritise using only natural ingredients that are nourishing for the skin but also have minimal impact on the environment. At Blossom & Leaf, we want to keep our footprint and impact on the planet we share as small as possible. Our vision is to work with nature rather than impacting it.
When developing a product, we always consider the most sustainable packaging option. Everything is intentionally packaged either in cardboard, glass, metal or left naked with minimal packaging to reduce waste. Our labels are home compostable and/or recyclable making all packaging end of life either reusable, recyclable and/or home compostable. Here is what we’ve worked hard to put in place:
All our products are palm oil free and made from scratch with the most natural ingredients we can find
We only use natural colourants and pure essential oils - no micas or synthetic fragrances are used
All our packaging is plastic free, reusable or recyclable, and home compostable wherever possible
Our thermal postage labels are made from FSC certified wood pulp with a vitamin C based coating. They are plastic free, ink free and fully recyclable
Our labels are either recycled paper or made from sugarcane fibres (bagasse), hemp and linen; making them wood free and plastic free. These labels are recyclable or fully home compostable wherever possible
Any printing is done either on a thermal printer or with plant based, eco friendly inks
Any glue or adhesive used is plant based (vegan), plastic free and acid free wherever possible
We also care deeply about the creatures we inhabit the planet alongside. All our products are 100% vegan, made from plant based ingredients and colourants. Our products and packaging are both completely plastic free. None of our products or ingredients have been tested on animals, making us a 100% cruelty free company. Our products have also been confirmed safe for aquatic life.
